That day, BIRN’s server received an unexpected huge traffic jam, preventing regular traffic. DDoS attacks aim to disrupt the normal traffic of a targeted server, service, or network.
“The attack started on December 22 at 16:03 and it continued in the next two days. That was a classic DDoS with a billion queries. We managed to defend ourselves with tools and knowledge,” an IT security expert whose company deals with BIRN’s digital security said.
